​Through layered paper and paint, I explore how women create a sense of belonging, carry memory, and find strength in one another.

My practice includes mixed-media painting, participatory installation, and community-engaged projects that explore memory, identity, and collective experience.

 

​My recent work explores the quiet strength that emerges through connection, care, and shared presence. Figures gather, lean toward one another, and occupy a shared emotional space together, reflecting how identity and belonging are shaped through relationships.

I have always had a visceral connection to paper. My studio has an eclectic collection of textured papers from regions like Japan and India. Japanese decorative paper, in particular, inspires me because of its centuries-old handcrafted techniques. and its unique qualities of vibrancy, strength, and resilience. These characteristics parallel the women I portray in my work: resilient, layered, and beautifully complex. With their array of colours and textures, the papers ignite my creativity as I run my fingers across them, sparking ideas for figures and forms, cutting, layering, and weaving them into painted surfaces. This tactile engagement inspires the figures and shapes in my paintings, helping me envision forms and compositions.

 

I emphasize the interplay of texture and colour when translating inspirations into paintings, especially in human figures. Each painting is built through the careful layering of colour, texture, and light, which I use to accentuate each subject's individuality and essence. For instance, I design intricate dresses and styles in my paintings, based on how light interacts with the paper's patterns and hues, making every figure distinct and dynamic. Each piece of paper is carefully chosen, cut, and layered to deepen the figure's emotion, movement, and presence. Each fragment carries its own rhythm and history, becoming part of a larger story.
